You didn't like The King's Speech because you found the protagonist unlikeable? Uh, good luck watching The Social Network.

As for Netflix Instant recommendations, Ikiru, Battleship Potemkin, M, La Strada, and Persona rank among my personal favorite films and are all available instantly. To Tom and Cecil, I'll recommend Agora because of its atheist protagonist and subject matter. You guys might enjoy it.

My vote this time goes to to Taxi Driver. If Edge of Darkness somehow ends up winning the votes, then you know you have an audience full of sadists.

Lovin' the new, boys. Just one question: Will you be posting pix of foot toxicity removal here or there?

Criminently, so much to say about this show.
Sequels first: Totally agree about the necessity of (not) prolonging the misery of the movies listed. Finding Nemo? Seriously? What are they going to do, resurrect Nemo's mom so they can KILL HER AGAIN?

RE: Sidney LOO METTE. His career is like the rundown of all the movies you have been meaning to watch when you were in your RESPONSIBLE mood. Ones that make me sad to have not seen. I will watch Twelve Angry Men every time I happen upon it, even if it means hijacking the plane, so if the rest of this man's oeuvre is as good, then I am a poorer woman for not having experienced them. (Note to self: go back and listen to Tom and Cecil give unanimous 5s; WEIRD!)

So let's talk Netflix.
Documentaries RULE. Can you find Gasland at your local library? (If you can, let me know; I'll move there.) Fucking LURVED Exit Through the Gift Shop. Likewise Wasteland, but for different reasons. If you're feeling warm and fuzzy, try The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. Tom is demonstrably more ballsy than me; he sat through Jesus Camp. I'm not sure I can.

I know I'm monopolizing the conversation, but I have time between baseball practice and solving the progressive political conundrum.
What tickles me sideways about Netflix is catching old TV stuff. Over the winter I caught up on all the Pysch episodes I had ever missed. (Yep, I'm a pun geek.) But my SPARKLY BESTEST is beyond question Dead Like Me. Good god damn I wish that show had gone more than two seasons. I actually liked Mandy "Inigo Montoya" Patinkin a bunch. Plus death.

One more thing:
I hope British Andy and Andy 3.0 nail Cecil to the wall for his execrable accent. So there.

Jesus Camp, like the 2001 documentary Hell House, should be seen by every documentary-watchin' adult.

As a Christian even I will testify that both docs will make you grab your teddy bear and, in your footy pajamas, run crying and screaming into the warm arms of Christopher Hitchens.

I like totally forgot to vote. So, "Taxi Driver." You're welcome.

SM, is heavy drinking indicated in an attempt to view those docs, or would it simply cause instant hangover?

Lori,

Drinking while doc'ing of those two might result in the insta-hurls :)

It is as I suspected. There are some adult beverages that invite the migraine fairy to cast stones immediately, and others that might as well come with Ipecac chasers. Drinking + Jesus Camp might well prove to be worse than all those, possibly as bad as a combination of everything that sends a body to AA after a 3-day bender. How the fuck did Tom do it? Xanax?

Things that need sequels:

The Incredibles, which I think wrapped up it's little story perfectly, yet leaves it wide open for further exploration.

Deadwood, because of it's non-ending to allow such a great t.v. show that opportunity... however it's hard to make that happen (see Firefly - Serenity)
